Edith Scheonrock International Competition

The Port Huron Figure Skating Club proudly hosts its Annual Edith Scheonrock International Competition the first weekend of February each year.  The invitational event, sanctioned by US Figure Skating and Skate Canada, is organized by alumni members of the Port Huron Figure Skating Club and was started over 30 years ago in 1987.  Over 125 skaters from clubs across Michigan, Ohio, and Ontario, Canada compete at Port Huron Figure Skating Club’s home rink, Glacier Pointe on Dove Road in Port Huron, Michigan.  Events may include Excel, Compulsory Moves, Spins, Jumps, Adult Freeskate, Solo Dance, Interpretative, and Survivor.

The event is named after and dedicated to the late Edith Scheonrock, a long-time Port Huron Figure Skating Club supporter. For 24 years until her death in 1986, Edith Scheonrock unselfishly volunteered her time to the Port Huron Figure Skating Club. “Mrs. Scheonrock” as we all called her, sat at rink side by the hours playing music for the skaters and consoling skaters injuries. She was always ready to offer her time to get jobs done for the club, truly a dedicated volunteer that is missed by all.

“The lady loved, The lady cared,
The lady helped, The lady shared.
Praise she gave to keep skaters aglow,
A very special lady to know.”
